Captains For Clean Water: Big Sugar’s Rock Mine

Captains For Clean Water: Big Sugar’s Rock Mine
From Captains For Clean Water:
Big Sugar is pushing a massive rock mine in the Everglades Agricultural Area, disguised as a water storage project. Called the Southland Water Resource Project, it’s headed for a Palm Beach County Commission vote on May 22nd, even though the South Florida Water Management District has not yet completed its required evaluation of the project. If approved, it could undermine Everglades restoration and put Florida’s clean water at risk.
The future of South Florida’s waters hangs in the balance. The Palm Beach County Board of Commissioners is voting on Big Sugar’s Southland rock mine proposal this Thursday, and we need to show up strong to make sure they hear our message loud and clear.
Join our Co-Founders Capt. Chris Wittman and Capt. Daniel Andrews, along with legendary guides like Capt. Mike Holliday, as we stand up to oppose this reckless project.

Can’t make it to the hearing?
You can still take action now! Send an email to the Palm Beach County commissioners urging them to reject this rock mine proposal.
It’s super easy, we've drafted an email for you. All you have to do is add your name and click “send” to let the county know why this project is full of red flags:
- It’s a rock mine disguised as a restoration reservoir, with zero treatment infrastructure to clean the water before it’s sent south through the Everglades.
- It threatens the structural integrity and overall effectiveness of the Everglades Reservoir, a critical nearby restoration project designed to reduce toxic coastal discharges.
- It sets a dangerous precedent that opens the door for more rock mines in the area, favoring industry profits over Florida’s clean water and restoration future.
Join us in standing up to Big Sugar and protecting our waters.
