YETI Rambler Half-Gallon Water Jug
YETI Ramblers are worth what you pay for them, be they tumblers, drink glasses, water jugs, whatever–they keep drinks colder and hold ice longer. For me, the half-gallon jug is almost perfect for a day on the drift boat (or skiff)–I fill it with ice and water, and even on the hottest, hopper day, the water stays icy cool and incredibly refreshing.
I now keep three on my boat–one for each person, which eliminates the plastic bottle issue entirely, and keeps everyone chuggin’ and happily hydrated all day long, and then some. I’ve even started keeping a jug by my bedside at night. Love the magnetic screw-top cap on the spout, love almost everything about it.
But I say “almost” because if you don’t wind the lid tight, it’ll naturally leak; however, if you screw the lid on too tight, it’s almost impossible to hand-wrench the thing loose again to refill it. It’s a very fine line and balancing act–not too tight, not too loose.
I actually keep a rubber mallet in my boat now, specifically to knock the lid loose enough to unscrew (those of you who have experienced this will know exactly what I’m talking about). The rewards far outstrip the risks, however, but you need to know the deal going in.

Conclusion
In the world of hot and cold thermos technology, you typically get what you pay for when it comes to products that can perform, take physical abuse and last. While expensive, the YETI Rambler Half Gallon Jug makes a case for being the best in a category: well-designed, easy to clean, extremely durable and most importantly, the ability to keep “cold drinks cold and hot drinks hot” for astounding lengths of time. Figure out the lid tightening issue, and you have a “product of the year” candidate.
